AMAZING! Fifty five year old femme performs flowing feats of flexibility few folks of any age can achieve!
After a long hiatus from performing, I am trying to emerge from retirement with a rare skill I think would be of great interest to you and you can now see what I do, Yoga Dancing: 'A Bit of a Stretch' on You Tube here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrA6LWBIuZU
My eccentric dance act is called: 'The Amazing Amy in A Bit of a Stretch: Yoga Dancing, Not Bad For a 50+ Year Old Gal!" Dressed in a simple, black and silver Asian-style costume, to approx. 6 minutes of cool Mingus piano music, I perform a flowing display of extreme yoga front bend contortions, living body sculpture, flexibility most folks half my age can't achieve. At the conclusion, I address the audience commenting on how injury and age would not stop me from sharing the beauty and healing power of Yoga despite torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders, a disintegrated disc in my spine and a total left hip replacement - astounding, entertaining and inspiring audiences.
A funny version of my act has just been perfected: YOGA TREK: To Boldly Stretch Where Few 50+ Year Olds Have Stretched Before. Dressed in a barefoot variation of a classic Star Trek uniform, to theme music from the film versions of the famous TV series, I do a spaced-out contortion act that will generate as many laughs as it does amazement and it is dedicated to the new film. Intrigued? I am at your service.
What if Fanny Brice and Molly Goldberg could do Yoga? Have I got an act for you! Ready to unleash upon the unsuspecting world is The Amazing Amy as The Yoga Yenta in Yo-GaGa! or My Yiddishe Yoga, slightly over 5 minutes of spectacular, yoga contortions with comedic flair, performed to klezmer music and sprinkled with verbal Yiddishisms (or without speaking if you prefer) as the uniquely flexible 55 year old woman dressed in a lovely black and purple sequined costume amuses, astounds and inspires the audience!
Please allow me to come out of retirement (in 1994) and share Yoga Dancing with the world.
My first post-retirement performance was Mar. 14, 2009 at the Lava Dance Co.'s 'Night of Renegades' open performance night where Yoga Dancing was a huge success at their studio space at 524 Bergen St., Brooklyn. Molly Chernoff of the Lava Dance Co. and the MC of the event, would vouch for my performance (molly@lavalove.org ) I also presented my piece to Joel Jeske of the Parallel Exit Co. and of the NYC Physical Theater Project and he too can vouch for my skill as can his partner Chris Lueck from their act The Hey-Ya Brothers. info@heyyabrothers.com AND, I performed Monday April 6 at Keith Bindlestiff's Open Variety Show at the Galapagos Art Space in Dumbo, Brooklyn where my 'A Bit of a Stretch: Yoga Dancing' was a resounding success. Keith would be glad to verify that: keith@bindlestiff.org . I just successfully debuted Yoga Trek at the Down Town Clown Revue on May 18 (www.downtownclown.com ) and I performed it again on Monday June 1 at another Bindlestiff Variety Show at Galapagos Art Space and on Sat. June 6 at another Night of Renegades at the Lava Dance Co. studios. Keith Nelson invited me back to his Open Variety Show to repeat Yoga Trek on August 3, at 8PM at the Galapagos Arts Space. Yoga Trek enjoyed a successful performance at the We'll Never Have Paris Variety Show at the Hi Christina Space in Brooklyn, Aug. 22 at 8PM (http://www.hichristina.com/calendar2009.html).

Audiences loved it and presenter Natalie Agee loved it and wrote me the following thank you note.
Dearest Amy!
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing work with us, and for your wonderful energy in the studio! You are a beautiful soul and a superb performer. ...The showcases happen every so often--usually about every 6 months or so...since they take so long to organize, and my students don't really have as many acts as you do--it takes them about that long to put something together! But I will definitely let you know. I can't imagine another showcase without you!!!
Let's definitely stay in touch!
Much love and admiration,
Natalie

Urban Yoga wowed the crowd at the F the Recession Party on Thurs. Oct. 8 at 7:30 PM at Rebel (251 W. 30th St., NYC) http://newyork.going.com/ftherecession#
Presenter Broke-Ass Stuart thanked me:
Hey Amy-
thanks again for performing the other night. you were incredible! I will totally give you a shout the next time we do one of these kind of events.
Stuart
And my name, associated with this event, got mentioned in the local NY Press newspaper!
Broke-Ass Stuart left San Francisco for New York last week and brought the circus with him.
Stuart, the West Coast writer whose books and website serve as guides to all things cheap for those living it up in the city, played ringmaster for the East Coast reincarnation of his “Fuck the Recession Party” last Thursday at Rebel because “basically a lot of people got nailed by the recession” and what better way to fuck it than by offering free drinks and entertainment for the people?
Delivering on his promise of a night of alcohol fueled revelry, Stuart offered those in attendance a den of debauched revelry in which to escape their financial misfortunes, reminding people that just because they might be broke doesn’t mean they can’t still have a good time. The crowd enjoyed music sets from Parente, The Children of Technicolor, Thought and Vicio and beats from Brina Payne along with a slue of Big Top entertainment like The Amazing Amy, crowd-favorite contortionist, TOPAZ, chanteuse extraordinaire, who offered free advice and an exhibition of lubes, lotions and pleasure devices from her sex advice booth and Michelle Bloom who gave guests glimpses at their future with tarot card readings. Nate Hill and his Club Animals offered free bouncy rides and Miss Ricci, clad in her green fairy costume, worked the crowed taking request for her balloon animal creations.
